TIPS for planning:

1. Buy an Air Ticket on any airline upto your choice. Apply for an appropriate visa from VFS and from the country your stay is maximum and also it depends on 1st port of landing.
2. Eurail Global Pass for travelling between city to city (We recommend 1st class travel, as seats are more comfortable, spacious and less crowded. We also suggest making reservations of seats in advance. Its better and you know where you are supposed to be seated.
3. In OBB trains: there are high speed trains like Rail jet and West Bahn : where there is Business class as well and the seats can recline and can anyday beat the seats of an Airline. Pantry service on the seats. All GOOD!!! We also suggest to get 4* hotels booked (3* centre are also a good option though).

TRAVEL LIGHT:

Packing: Wear and pack good shoes, a good jacket, muffler, cap and gloves,a couple of Jeans, t-shirts & tops and that’s all : **** As there should be space left for the stuff you are going to shop

And remember: you have to walk a lot and it’s an easy comfortable walk, you are going to enjoy it surely.

If you choose to fly on Swiss International Airlines Via Zurich, land in Prague, capital city of the Czech Republic. From Zurich to Prague we fly over Austria… and you can not miss the awesome scenery of snow capped alps and different cloud layers and sun rays. Make a video… you will love it!!!

Day 1- PRAGUE:

Prague is known as a city of hundred Spires (A spire on a church or cathedral is a symbol of wealth, prestige & strength), A UNESCO monument etc…

You arrive. A private transfer to Hotel from Airport. Because you have luggage this day and I am sure you want to reach comfortably at the hotel’s door. Takes approx 25 -30 minutes to your hotel if you book a hotel towards the old town. It’s ideal to choose a hotel around Old town. Because when you have free time. You can enjoy strolling on cobbled streets.

Arrive hotel…check in. If you are early for check in time. Then keep the luggage in the hotel and take a walk nearby the hotel and just have the feel of it.

Refresh and change. And proceed to Prague Castle tour. The castle is more like a mini city, a walled medieval village. The castle was home to Bohemian Kings and Queens and today is the official residence of the President of the Czech Republic. Every hour, there is a change of Guards ceremony that you can see at the entrance. There is a viewpoint at the entrance: where you can view the historical old town, a great point to take a picture. There are different Circuits tickets which allow you access to the cathedral, castle entrance and different exhibitions. In the castle premises: there is this historic St. Vitus Cathedral and St. George’s Basilica, the old church was demolished to build St. Vitus. The Cathedral was the crowning place of all the Kings of Bohemia and the resting place of St. Wenceslas himself. In winters there are beautiful and serene Christmas Markets set up. You can have hot wine/ mulled wine (also known as spiced wine, is made with red wine along with spices. It is served hot and is alcoholic, although there are non-alcoholic versions of it. A traditional drink of winters, especially around Christmas) with some local czech delicacies like Goulash soup, etc

After Prague castle… walk towards the Charles Bridge … it’s a beautiful walk to get romantic and a great photo stop. Stop for a while on the bridge and Enjoy the illuminated bridge and the surroundings.

Proceed for a boat tour. Reach to Prague boat pier point, Embankment no. 2-5. Enjoy the cruise on Beautiful Vltava river. OR if you like local cuisine, then you should definitely go for Crystal boat dinner which includes : Local dinner + 1 drink + Crystal boat + window seats guaranteed with live music. Enjoy the good times with an unforgettable experience and undisturbed views of Prague’s monuments from the deck or directly from the open deck.

Return to the hotel and have a good night’s sleep.

Day 2- PRAGUE:

Good Morning Prague…. Today we explore the Old town of Prague.

Old town is so beautiful, every street is special, every monument is special. If you are staying in hotels like Hilton Old Town or Marriott then you can easily walk through the old town. Take a city tour.

Lets go to Prague’s most famous landmark, the world famous and intriguing Astronomical Clock or Orloj. It chimes every hour. When the clock strikes the hour (from 9.00 a.m. to 11.00 p.m.), the procession of the Twelve Apostles sets in motion. In winters (from 2nd week of November: there are beautiful Christmas Markets set up where you can sip Glue Wine (hot mulled wine) and exciting part is that you can take the mug home as a souvenir or else return and take a refund for mug at any shop ahead also in the market at the wine stall. Also visit Town Hall and Gothic Tower.

You can also have some nice local cuisine dinner at one of the restaurants here. Time to return to the hotel. Night Night!!!

TIP:

You can also spend the 3rd night in Prague. Do the day trip to following:

1: Visit to Karlovy Vary: It’s the Spa town known for relaxation and healing. Approximate 79 Hot Springs are there and around 13 can be visited by strolling around on foot. You can also have some therapies or spa sessions booked. Buy a small porcelain cup with a spout and handle. Collect water from the natural mineral springs and drink it… get healed from the inside with its medicinal properties. It’s a Full day tour.

2: Visit to Cesky Krumlov: It’s a medieval town. Famous for the view of rows of colorful Gothic houses. Streets with Bohemian garnets and moldavites. When you reach here, you literally step back in time. It’s a Unesco World Heritage Site. It’s a Full day tour.

DAY 3: PRAGUE TO VIENNA

We have to catch an early train, so we have to be up on time When i gotta do this… I always remember this song which is a part my childhood memory: “MANIC MONDAY”

Board a train around 9 or 10. Takes around 4 hours.

Arrive in the city of Vienna. Check in. Refresh and start with a city tour of Vienna, which is a walking tour. And you will be blessed if you get a good guide. You will hear so many stories of Prince/ Empresses.

Here tales will get real. While strolling the streets of Vienna, we walked around with astonishment. and noticed how CLEAN the streets were and then the architecture because it is incredible.

DAY 4: VIENNA:

Today we will travel a little outside to visit Schonbrunn Palace to experience the imperial grandness. It is also a UNESCO world heritage site. And no doubts: it’s Vienna’s most visited attraction. It’s a Baroque architecture, full of historical and political events dated back to 1569. Wander across 40 decorated rooms.

Don’t miss the photo opportunity at the Neptune fountain and the Gardens.

Return Back to the city.

In the evening: would suggest you to go for a traditional show with local cuisine dinner included. You have dinner first and enjoy the professionally performed concert. Here the Orchestra plays Mozart in the first half and Strauss in the second. A combined performance of musicians, opera singers and ballet dancers.

Return to the hotel. Overnight at the hotel…. Have a musical sleep today

DAY 5: VIENNA- SALZBURG
Train again… to take you to a fairy tale city: SALZBURG

Takes approx. 1.5 hrs. Arrive Salzburg. Leave Luggage at Hotel, as check in time might be later and of course you do not want to waste time waiting.

If your hotel is in town, then you can walk up to any restaurants and grab something to eat. Or if not hungry: you can proceed to Mirabell Palace to see Mirabell Gardens…. you will be mesmerized by it…. different types of flowers and so many varieties of roses. We also got to know here that one can plant a rose bush to mark an occasion : May it be a celebration of a birth, a wedding or an anniversary OR a memoir for the person who has left us for heaven and you can see that plant grow and bear flowers

This is a favorite spot to hang round and photo opportunity for both Tourists and locals.

To take the tour: walk up till Panorama tours counter to proceed for: one and only original tour of “SOUND OF MUSIC”

Please show your vouchers at the window of the panorama counter and wait for the coach to arrive. A colorful bus. Its free seating. So sit anywhere you like.

You are greeted by a handsome driver and a charming guide. In our case it was: The pretty lady “BIRGIT” from Panorama Tours and driver“France”.

FRANCE drove us well in “AUSTRIA”…. well a poor joke, but I managed to make you laugh … :-D.

Now we all are familiar with this movie. Well I am sure of my Generation and an older generation than me as well… We have lived our childhood singing all songs and knowing them by heart: the most famous being: DO-RE-MI

This tour takes you on an interesting ride with views to die for. And our guide “BIRGIT” made the tour so interesting with funny and real stories that you didn’t want to miss a thing. She made it interactive for both adults and kids. With this you explore the original shooting locations from the movie: The Sound of Music in Salzburg and the Lake District and Mondsee. Perfect photo stop at Lake Wolfgang. I bet: this pic will stay for many months as your profile picture!!! You are left at the same spot where you started. So, explore walking more… eat something and go to hotel to sleep or have a party

Day 6 – SALZBURG

You have 2 choices … Or if you have day 3 also in Salzburg…if you are staying for 3 nights-… Then you can do both day trips.

The 1st choice is … Day trip to Hallstatt

You can take a day trip from Salzburg by bus Or also you can go by train. Change train in Attnang (it’s a familiar place for us…like Anantnag ..Isn’td )

Then onwards train to Hallstatt.

You arrive in Hallstatt …the world-famous HERITAGE TOWN, the most beautiful village to spend a day and I really recommend visiting in both summer and winter.

Enjoy this most famous postcard view of Hallstatt and the Lake Hallstättersee.

It is also a UNESCO heritage site… Being a tiny Village with inhabitants approx. 850!

So, one can literally walk through the village in a few hours.

If you are getting there via public transport, then you have to take a 10 minutes ferry from Hallstatt train station to the Hallstatt village and the beautiful views of lake Hallstätter See Will start mesmerizing you right from the point where you take the ferry…

Walk a 10 minutes easy walk towards Salzwelten funicular station. A fast funicular. only 2 minutes ride up. Then a stair …approx. 60 steps up OR a LIFT for not so stair friendly people and then a slope walks of 650 meters …around 10 minutes’ walk for start of the famous salt mines tour… The world’s oldest salt mine!!!

This has a history of 7000 years ago… an interactive tour. Please keep in mind that you have to walk a bit while on the tour and some stairs too. But it’s all worth it. It’s a combination of light show…a movie … 1 small slide and a bigger slide complimenting it… This slide ride is very enjoyable and interesting and safe! And in the end at exit… You will find your picture which was taken while you were sliding (you can buy it if u want) and a free small souvenir of kitchen salt.

After the tour …while walking down the slope till lift… you step out onto this striking viewing platform…SKYWALK, you walk few meters out to its tapered point, rest your hands on the railing and gaze out on the natural beauty before you – that’s when you will realize exactly what is being explained!!!

While down the funicular you enter the souvenir shop… You can buy the original salt and many other exciting stuffs.

Then we walk through the beautiful alleys back to the station… You have a Cream roll (which is sinfully delicious) … And I can not just forget Marcielle …a handsome dude who was selling this at the shop …So it makes the cream roll even more interesting … hehehe!

Back in the ferry to the train station and back to Salzburg.

**** If you don’t want to go on your own and discover… Then we can book a bus tour for you for Salt mines and Bavaria Mountains from Salzburg city centre itself.

2ND CHOICE:

Day trip to Zell am see and do an excursion to Mount Kitzsteinhorn – “Top of Innsbruck”

Take a train from Salzburg train station to Zell Am See. It’s around 1 hrs 45 minutes journey. Proceed to the valley station of Kitzsteinhorn. Exchange your voucher and start your journey. Below is a schedule example:

10:15 – Ascent by cable cars

10:45 – Arrival at the TOP Station & visit of all attractions

12:30 – Lunch on Top or Snacks

at 2 pm around start the descent.

Arrive at Zell am See. Here’s the best way to enjoy the mountain scenery: take a panoramic boat cruise on Lake Zell. In summers: enjoy the view from the ship’s sun’s deck. Grab the best spot. Also, you can eat and drink onboard!

Take the train connection back to Innsbruck. Walk or transfer to a hotel in a cab.

DAY 7: SALZBURG – INNSBRUCK

Proceed to the train station by walking or a private transfer or an UBER. Approx. 1 hour 45 minutes journey by train.

Check in at the hotel. Refresh or straight proceed for the old town visit of Innsbruck. it’s ALL WITHIN A CITY!!!

Innsbruck has all various activities at one place… You can see a palace, a modern Congress centre, old town heritage, horse carriage ride, a mountain excursion and an evening traditional Tyrolean evening show which can also be combined with a local dinner air post the show you can have an Indian meal at Indian restaurant within walking distance.

And not to forget …a visit to Swarovski Crystal world in Watten’s. Now isn’t that amazing!!!

DAY 8: INNSBRUCK

Today proceed to visit the old town …the golden roof. Take a walking city tour. Then walk till Congress centre train station …that’s the starting point for NORDKETTE mountain excursion.

You will start seeing the Alps from here itself. The journey is… You take a cogwheel till Hungerburg (here it’s the entire city view you can enjoy from this level. Then from here you are on a cable car to Seegrube… I recommend you don’t spend time here while going up… Straight take another cable car ride until to the top of Innsbruck… Which is the station Haeflaker. You go out in the snow…play different sledges and walk or hike … If it’s clear sunshine weather… Nothing can beat this kind of ALPS VIEW… It’s stunning!!! And the best opportunity to take selfies and make good pictures

TIP: pls wear your jacket…cap.

Now you must be tired and hungry as well… So, we move 1 level down and arrive at Seegrube again… Here there is a restaurant and play platform, stunning view here as well. Have some local viennese dish …like chicken schnitzel and drinks.

News: from April 2020… There will Indian food also available at Seegrube.

So, in half a day from the city centre you made a trip to a mountain!!!

Return down. And you have the option to take a ride on the horse carriage… I took the ride though the old town and the coach will explain to you all the sights. My horse’s name was FUKSY … I also petted him :-). It costs around EUR 15 PP for an approx. 30 minutes ride.

NOTE: The horse carriage rides are available in all cities in this itinerary leaving Switzerland. In Switzerland it’s only available in Interlaken.

WINTERS: There are always Christmas markets setup in all Main areas of old towns and cities in PRAGUE/ VIENNA/ / SALZBURG/ INNSBRUCK/ ZURICH…

From Mid Nov till 23 Dec around. And also there is a sound light magic show happening in NOV and DEC at Hofburg palace in Innsbruck.
Ticket is approx. EUR 10 pp… Can be bought just opposite Hofburg.
In the evening, it’s time for some traditional Folk show. it’s world famous… It’s very original and is run by a family named GUNDOLF and now running since 50 years. You have 2 options: Either just watch a show only and have an Indian dinner at a restaurant in a city close by eating a nice meal at a restaurant … Maybe a hot pizza and a Pasta and some drinks OR WATCH THE SHOW WITH LOCAL DINNER.This show is very interactive. A MUST WATCH!

Return to your hotel… And sleep with dreams of dream destination Switzerland!

DAY 9: INNSBRUCK – BASEL

Today… we are checking out and taking a train journey to Switzerland, the most beautiful place on Earth. It’s home to lakes, magic mountains, medieval towns, mountain peaks and an endless landscape of green fields. And not to forget delicious chocolate, wines, cheese Fondue and Raclette!

Arrive Basel. Start the day by visiting one of the many museums that Basel has to offer. Make your own paper in the Paper Museum (closed on Mondays) or get overwhelmed by the variety of dolls and Teddy Bears of the Toy World Museum (closed on Mondays). Get to know the city from the water by doing a short trinational river cruise on the Rhine. Continue your journey by visiting the Basel Zoo, : The Zoological Gardens, known affectionately as “Zolli” by Basel’s inhabitants, opened in Basel in 1874 and are home to a large number of indigenous and exotic animals.

Overnight in Basel.

There is altogether a different atmosphere during Christmas. Basel’s Christmas markets are very special. Enjoy the carnival…. souvenir shops… local delicacies… mulled wine (you also have the opportunity to bring the wine mug as a souvenir back home)

DAY 10: BASEL- Day trip to Europa-Park (Rust)

Today you leave to experience the Europa-Park located in Rust, in south-western Germany, between Freiburg and Strasbourg. Europa-Park is a theme park and the largest in Germany, and the second most popular theme park resort in Europe, following Disneyland Paris.

Bus departs from Basel Badischer Bahnhof station at 0745 hrs in the morning and reaches the park at 0900 hrs. You spend the day in the park and return to board the bus at 1730 hrs.

You will reach Basel at 1845 hrs at Basel Badischer Bahnhof station. Enjoy your dinner in a nice restaurant or a cafe. Make your way to the hotel. Overnight in Basel.

Day 11: Basel – Day trip to Colmar

Enjoy Breakfast in the hotel. Today proceed towards France: Take a 1.5hrs scenic bus ride to Colmar, a town in the Grand Est region of northeastern France, near the border with Germany. Its old town has cobblestone streets lined with half-timbered medieval and early Renaissance buildings. Once arrived at Colmar, locate the Little White Train in front of the library, near the Unterlinden Museum (Adult cost @ EUR 7 and to be paid directly to the driver).

The Little White Train will make you discover old Colmar in an original and playful way! The 7 km circuit approximately is commented in 16 languages and lasts approximately 40 min. The Little White Train circulates from 9 am till 6 pm from April to the end of September, from 10 am till 5 pm in March, October and November.

Return to Basel in the evening. Eat something…. and proceed to the hotel to sleep…Overnight in Basel.

SUGGESTION FOR MORE SIGHTSEEING: ADD ONE MORE DAY

​One day should be added for some relaxation … Tell me if I am wrong …

I suggest one night you can keep for RIGI KALTBAD …one of the oldest spa destinations. You have to take a train to Lucerne …then hop on to a boat till Vitznau. Finally board the Mount Rigi train …a cog wheel to the station Rigi Kaltbad. Get down at the station and walk approximately 1 minute to the hotel.

You can indulge in Mineral and crystal spa, Sauna, Aroma Steam, indoor heated pool which leads to an outer pool (well this is an ULTIMATE experience as you are out in cold and in thermal pool with around 35* maintained temperature) … In the pool area…there are jacuzzis … Pressure water drop area … And so on. ALL THIS IS INCLUDING YOUR OVERNIGHT PRICE!!!

And you can also enjoy Massages (available in different types and priced accordingly). Recommend to book it in advance.

Return the next day to Basel or Interlaken or stay one more night.

Day 12: Basel – Zurich

This morning I took the train to Zurich Airport to take a flight back home with sweet and beautiful memories.

***TIP:

Arrive a little few hour early at Zurich Airport and do last minute shopping…. buy home stuff and chocolates from MIGROS. Don’t forget to gorge on “Macaroons” the most famous. An airy mini-macaroon filled with a light cream made of fresh, natural ingredients. Exclusive to Confiserie Sprüngli. You have both alcohol and non-alcohol options. And I swear it literally melts in your mouth!!!

So, come on… take some motivation… apply for leaves … book your tickets… and start getting ready to spread your wings!!!
