Budapest's hot springs have left a huge underground caving system which can be explored through climbing and crawling on this tour! Many people visit Hungary's famous thermal baths but only a few know that the hot water is rushing up from deep underground where creating caves. In the limestone mountains under Budapest, the heated water formed a huge cave system which is thought to be more than 100 km long. The spas and the caves of Budapest are planned to be declared part of the UNESCO World Heritage. The longest cave of Budapest is the 20.1 km long. It is called Pal Volgyi Matyas Hegyi Cave and its located in the Dunalpoly National Park. It is a real multi-level labyrinth system with most of its chambers under the residential districts of Budapest. If you aren't claustrophobic you can apply for our regularly scheduled cave tours which are guided by qualified caving guides. During the 3.5 hours long tour you will often have to climb on the walls and crawl through narrow passages so you have to be prepared for adventure. Tour leads through natural parts of the cave with the supervision of professional caving guides. All the necessary equipment - overall, helmet, lamp will be provided. You will have possibility to change your clothes in changing room which is based at the cave entrance. No previous caving experience is needed.

Cancellation

A 15% refund applies to completely untilized sightseeing (atleast 8 days prior to commencement of the tour).Within 8 days it is non refundable.

  • Children under the age of 14 are not allowed to join this tour.

Note*: Tour ends outside of cave and guide will give you directions how to get back to the city centre via bus or taxi. Clothing: Each participant must wear suitable, closed-toe sports shoes for this tour flip flops, high heels and sandals are not suitable and guests will forfeit their participations without refund. Please dress for 16-18 C and have a warm pullover. Caving overalls are provided on this tour. Due to insurance reasons this tour is not suitable for guests under the age of 12 and over the age of 50. Guests should have a valid public transport pass, 4 tickets or money available to buy 4 transport tickets. Participants must be physically fit for climbing and crawl for 2 hours. Guests must sign a waiver form to participate on this tour. How to get there by public transportation: catch bus nr. 9 towards 'Obuda, Bogdani t', Bus nr. 9 has several stops in the cenral area of Budapest, you can catch it from the Kalvin Square, Astoria, Deak Ferenc Square, St. Stephen's Basilica, Arany Janos Street, Nyugati Railway Station etc. You need to alight at the Kolosy Square.Walk down on the Lajos street until you reach Szepvolgyi street and turn to the right. Walk 100 m until you reach the bus terminal. From Kolosy Square you should catch bus nr.65 or 65A. Get off at 'Pal-volgyi cseppkobarlang', 5 stops from Kolosy square. Note: please, note that the buses only stop if someone gets off the vehicle, you can ask the bus driver remind you when you reach your destination.
